Mission Statement

High School sports should be about teamwork. Many sports allows students to compete and be able to get the skill that they need. Many schools focus on sports to be competitive, winning teams, and to promote the value of school spirit and fair play. Many schools has their own goals for sports to give their students the tools and skills to achieve the mission. High school sports has a lot of things involved including teamwork, ability to win the games, build the students character and allowing them to be socially involved with other players on the team. Many schools wants their students, athletes, coaches, and spectators to behave in a sportsmanlike manner at all contests. High school sports is not about winning because the students that play a sport wants to have fun and interact with other players on the team to improve their social skills.

Biggest NHL Story of 2015

Pittsburgh Penguins fire head coach Mike Johnston. Mike Johnston was hired in the summer of 2014. Johnston was fired a couple of weeks ago off to a sluggish start. Johnston's record went 58-37-18 during his brief stint with Pittsburgh. Mike Sullivan was named the head coach after Mike Johnston was fired. Sullivan was head coach of the Boston Bruins in 2003-2006. Pittsburgh Penguins record is 15-10-3 and in fifth place in the Metropolitan division. The Penguins are 28th ranked in scoring in the NHL. The Penguins hope that Sullivan will help the team the spark that they need. General manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins said, "I wanted somebody new to come in that the players aren't going to totally know, Jim Rutherford said. "I think that he can come in and mold what we're doing going forward." In 2014 Pittsburgh's record was 16-4 one of the best records in the NHL last year. The Penguins has been dealing with injures that is effecting their power play and is not allowing them to set up pretty goals rather than producing shots or traffic around the net. Pittsburgh acquired Phil Kessel to give Malkin a potent running mate and bringing in veteran forward Eric Fehr moves that will take the burden off the top line. Sidney Crosby only has 22 points this season and is off to the worst start of his decade long career. Pittsburgh is 26th with the man advantage this season. Malkin is leading the Penguins with 13 goals and 13 assists. Top goaltender Marc-Andre Fluery is on injured reserved with a concussion.

I picked this because I was surprised that the Penguins fired their head coach. The Penguins fired two head coaches in back to back seasons. Also, I wanted to do the blog on Mike Johnston getting fired because I don't like the Penguins. This was one of the biggest stories in the NHL.

How Athletes impact academics

High School athletes impact academics in a number of ways. Athletes face problems because many coaches want the students to play only one sport, even if other students have an interest in other sports. In addition, coaches at the high school level are discriminating against athletes that do not demonstrate an athletic level that is suitable for them. Coaches, athlete directors, and parents have moral obligation when it comes to protecting the high school athletes and promoting better academics and education for the students. In many cases, high school athletes are being pressured to meet the academic requirements by cheating to get the requirements they need. In most schools, there are rules regarding students grades to allow the students to play the sport. Students that want to play a sport will have to get certain grade to be able to play. Most schools have that rule for the students that want to play a sport. Coaches push students to get good grades in ways that are not right just so the coaches can help the students get a scholarship. A high school sport may require year-round training which can get the students feeling overwhelmed and unable to complete the duties that they have to do including school work. This often takes the fun out of the sport and replacing it with unnecessary pressures. 

High School athletes have effects on academics. High school athletes always has one common issue such as steroids when the athletes are highly pressured. High school athletes are pushed hard to do better and athletes feel like using steroids is the only way to get better. These effects are a slippery slope for many athletes in high school. There has been changes too that has taken place for high school athletes. One change is to allow schools to drug test students. This change is designed to punish the athletes who are using the drugs. Students that test positive are not allowed to play the sport and the student is kicked off the team or in some cases only has the student be removed from the team for a certain amount of time. 

Does High School sports impact high school culture?

High school sports has positive and negative impact on young athletes. High school sports are popular and each sport gets a lot of students to play for their high school team. Some positive things that impact high school culture is students can improve their skills and get better with each practice. High school culture can impact high school sports because there academics would increase. Another positive thing for young athletes is that with the sport they are playing they eat healthy and have the ability to perform at their best on the day of the game. The athletes can influence physical health and warding off negative signs of obesity. Both boys and girls can will be able to reach high academic goals. Teenagers that participate in high school sports are happier, have increased self-esteem, and are less anxious, with a decreased risk of suicidal behavior. The coaches improved player satisfaction, motivation, self-esteem, compliance, and attraction rates through positive reinforcement and teaching. The coaches do effective training an enhanced sporting experience was reported by most athletes.

Negative impact on high school culture is athletes that get injured. Athletes in high school can suffer from rapid expansion of the bones while growing and slowly elongating muscles, tension develops across the growth plates, and the joints. During adolescent years, some athletes may experience a decrease in flexibility, coordination, and balance. It does not only increase injuries, but also impacts sports performance, placing more stress, anxiety and social pressure on the athlete. A hasty return to a sport with incomplete rehabilitation can result in chronic pain, dysfunction, increased time away from the sport and repeated injury to the same or different body parts. Children's bones are weaker than their ligaments or tendons, therefore they are at an increased risk for fractures throughout the bone and growth plate. At a basic level for physical activity and fun can be a financial hardship for some families. Basic costs include uniforms, equipment, league fees, travel expenses and footwear.

Story of the week

A football player on the St. Louis Rams quarterback gets a concussion during the game and he keeps playing. Case Keenum gets hit hard during the Rams' game against Baltimore Saturday night with 1:14 left in the game. Keenum hit the back of his head against the ground and bouncing. Keenum stayed down on the ground holding his head and he felt dizzy and was wobbling. Keenum was allowed to play the last two downs before the Rams lost the ball and the Ravens got a field goal and won the game. Keenum was not diagnosed with a concussion until 30 minutes after the game. The St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher had told reporters that he expected to put Keenum through "a good week of practice" for the next game. "The fact of the injury to St. Louis Rams Case Keenum and why he wasn't removed from the game for the necessary evaluation by the team physician or the unaffiliated neuro-trauma consultant as required by our concussion protocols," the NFL said in a statement.

I think that it is a big deal because when a player gets a concussion the coach or the team physician should be taken out of the game. Any player that gets a concussion or gets knock down hard should leave the game and get tested for a concussion. The coach for the St. Louis Rams should have took the quarterback out of the game to get look at by the team physician. The quarterback should not have continued to play and the team physician needed to take him out of the game. The quarterback should have left the field with a teammate to get examined by the physician. It is a big deal because concussions are dangerous and they need a lot of time to heal and the player that got a concussion should not play until the concussion is completely gone.

Coaches and Parents:Specialization (Youth Sports)

Kids and teenagers both females and males parents have their kid play one sport instead of a variety of sports. Parents want their kids to play one sport because the parent will only have to deal with one sport that their kid plays. Parents feels pressure and only allows their kid to play one sport because it will be easier on their kid. The parents are being unfair and should allow their kid to play more than one sport if they want to. Kids and teenagers are probably going to feel upset if their parents only allows them to play one sport. The kids and teenagers want to play more than one sport because it will help with their athletic skills.

With kids and teenagers wanting to play more than one sport will help them stay in shape which is always good to help your body stay fit. Playing sports helps kids and teenagers meet new people and make friends. Also, it is good to join sports because it will help them with social skills in the future. Playing more than one sport is going to help the kids and teenagers a lot more than only playing one sport which parents want their kids to only play one sport. The kids find it unfair and they should play more than one sport if they want to and some kids do play more than one sport. Although some kids only want to play one sport because they listen to their parents and they let their parents tell them want to do. I think it is better for kids and teenagers to play more than one sport because it can help them in the future when they meet new people when they get a job. Being social is always good for kids and teenagers because they will develop their skills in the future as well. There are a lot of good things for joining more than one sport like I said before it will help them meet new people, develop social skills, and it will prepare them for a job in the future with those skills.

Current Event-Patrick Kane

This past summer the NHL had to deal with a star NHL player that got in a lot of trouble. The NHL banned Patrick Kane from going on the annual preseason media tour which is the top 40 NHL stars which Kane is one of them, but he couldn't go on the tour due to his actions that he did in the summer. Kane was also lost a major endorsement with a popular video game and the manufactures changed there plans to put Kane's picture to appear on the game box. The NHL was in a tough position and had to decide if Patrick Kane was allowed to play this season for the Chicago Blackhawks.


Patrick Kane found himself under investigation in the summer for what he did to a girl when he invited her into his home. Kane had to get an attorney and this attorney represented Kane in two investigations, both involving conduct that was alleged to have occurred after Kane went to Buffalo bars in late hours. Following a three month investigation Sedita dropped the charges against Patrick Kane. The Hamburg police supported and agreed with the DA's decision, Hamburg Police Capt. Christopher Monaco said. Cambria said that bothered Kane the most was the pain that the rape investigation caused his family. Cambria said that Kane realizes that he made poor judgement by inviting a women in his home he had just met to his house in the early hours of the morning. Cambria says, "I know he's going to learn from this. I know that he is going to make some changes." The NHL has warned young players to be careful about their conduct in bars, and about the damage they can do to their images and careers by their conduct with women. Kane is really close with his two sisters and parents and will never do anything like this again. Kane's attorney said that Kane has learned his lessons from the rape investigation.

Youth Violence and Bad Parenting

The parents will get out of control if a referee makes a bad call. Parents fight with the referee or fight and argue with other parents. In youth sports like football and baseball parents fight on the field if the referee makes a bad call and the parents fight with each other and punch parents or the referee. With the kids that play the sport could get hurt when parents fight and it gets out of control. The violence with youth sports whenever a referee makes a bad call is really bad because the parents can throw punches and hurt someone. Fighting with other adults is a bad influence for your kid if the kids sees their parents fight over a referee call. In hockey, there is not a lot of fighting and violence but sometimes players will fight and gather on the ice if the referee makes a bad call.

I feel like the adults should control their anger at youth sports and it will be a good example for the kids if parents don't fight at the game or after the game. The kids probably don't like it when the parents fight because the parents get out of control at the game and people try to break it up. In hockey the league is trying to have less fights then the previous season where there were a lot of fights between players. The violence and bad parenting is really bad when it comes to youth sports because parents argue and they get out of control on the field. The kids will like their parents if they don't fight over a referee's call or punch other adults. Some parents can't help their anger and they get into trouble when they fight at the game.

Comments 4 Kids

I think that Comments 4 Kids had good blogs. The people that wrote the blogs are good writers for their age. Most people that write blogs will want people to comment on what they wrote. When you write a comment you have to nice and not sound rude to the person. Most people don't know how to write a good comment and other do know. When you go to write a comment people should watch videos on how to write a good comment on a person's blog or article. People are mean on the Internet and they can't take bad want they said if they hit the send button. I hope with the blogs that I write people comment on them and it will motive me and make me feel good about what I wrote. Hopefully people that view my blogs comment and give me feedback so I can write more good ideas in my blogs. I think Comments 4 Kids is a good website to go on if you want to get ideas on how to write a blog and when you write a lot of blogs the better that you will get at writing them.

Negative Side about Breast Cancer treatment

Most of the patients that get treated for Breast Cancer do survive and some do not. Some treatments like chemotherapy and radiation can destroy breast cancer cells. The breast cancer organization doesn't get a whole lot of money to help the patients that have breast cancer get better. The money isn't getting to the organization for all the patients to survive breast cancer which is a shame. People that have Breast Cancer don't get the treatment that they need or the organization doesn't get the money to help the people that need it the most to get better. The people that get the help from the organization are happy and the people that don't get the help it makes them sad and it is a shame that they can't get better. People that have Breast Cancer which a ton of females get every year the organization doesn't get so much money that the doctors can't help every patient stay alive which is really sad because they could have a family and the family will lose someone really close to them. Breast Cancer does get money for the organization which is really good and hopefully the people that have breast cancer will get the help they need in the future.

ESPN Daily Fantasy Sports my take

I think that ESPN shouldn't do business with Daily Fantasy Sports because it will be a problem and it will cause a lot of discussion. ESPN shouldn't talk about Daily Fantasy Sports because it will make the people that watch ESPN go crazy if they talk about Daily Fantasy Sports. ESPN shouldn't work with Daily Fantasy Sports and they can't get anyone mad. ESPN shouldn't even talk about Daily Fantasy Sports because they could get in trouble. ESPN can talk about other things about recent news on sports and not Daily Fantasy Sports. It will make the people that play Daily Fantasy Sports mad if ESPN talks about it. ESPN is a popular channel to watch when people want to hear about recent news in sports and what is going on with all the teams.

Breast Cancer awareness month

Breast Cancer is a month that we wear pink which is an annual campaign to increase awareness to the campaign. A lot of football players wear pink socks during the games to support Breast Cancer month. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. During Breast Cancer month which is in October people wear pink to support the awareness. Millions of women are surviving this disease thanks in part to early detection and improvements in treatment. The American Cancer Society is actively fighting breast cancer by helping women to get tested for Breast Cancer early, by helping them understand their treatment options and cope with the physical and emotional side effects.

Latest News on Daily Fantasy Sports

Daily Fantasy Sports has always been a problem and they are always people that play it every year. Daily Fantasy Sports is popular and the two major players are FanDuel and Draft Kings. Both of them offer a entry fee of 25 cents to $1,000. Uses chooses players in fantasy teams and they earn points based on how the players perform in the real games. The prize money varies and go high as $2 million dollars which is a lot of money to win in Daily Fantasy Sports. DraftKings employee been accused of "inside trading" and DraftKings is a major website that is used to play Daily Fantasy Sports. A DraftKing employee won $350,000 on a FanDuel contest, prompting concerns that he may have benefited from insider information. DraftKing employees do not engage in inside trading. With DraftKings there has been confusion that is regarding the recent piece of data that was inadvertently that was posted on DraftKings' blog containing information about the players and the games, the company said in a statement. "Some reports are characterizing the situation and implying that there was a wrongdoing. We want to set the record straight." The company has shared the information with the competitor FanDuel as part of the investigation.

DraftKings and the Fantasy Sports Trade Association said that the companies are now banning employees from playing online sports for money. The industry says about this is "At this time, there is no evidence that any employee or company has violated" the FTSA charter that restricts "employee access to and use of competitive data for play on other sites." Some lawmakers want to regulate fantasy sports much like gambling. A lawyer and associate professor at Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College, explains that for Fantasy Sports  contests to be legal, and the contests must comply with the federal law and the state law in every state in which they operate. For example, there are state that have restrictions for the Fantasy sports in Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana and Washington.

Ethics in Hockey

There are different tactics in hockey that can reveal as cheating. The tactic that I am going to talk about is making themselves bleed after they get high-sticked and make it a 4:00 minute penalty instead of 2:00 penalty. Hockey players get high-sticked, but most players cheat by making themselves bleed. Most of the time after a player high-sticks it is usually a 2:00 minute penalty. Occasionally after a high-stick penalty the referee sees that the player is bleeding and says it is a 4:00 minute penalty.  Many  hockey players cheat and make themselves bleed, but some players don't.

The ethic that relates to hockey is Subjective relativism which is doing the right or wrong. I believe that hockey players should do the right thing by not cheating. It is not fair to cheat because it makes the player that high-sticked the other player go seat in the penalty box and sit for 4:00 minutes. Hockey players that get high-sticked make themselves bleed to make the other player get 4:00 minutes and it will give the team more powerplay time to score a goal. Hockey players should do the right thing by not cheating, but most players cheat anyway. I don't think it is fair when players cheat and it is wrong to do that by making yourself bleed. Overall, Subjective relativism is an ethic that relates to hockey and hockey players do the wrong thing by making themselves bleed after they get high-sticked.

Major Gambling Scandal

A major gambling scandal in hockey is Operation Slapshot it is a code name of an uncover police operation, by the New Jersey state police and is against an illegal nationwide gambling ring. The operation was made by an assistant coach in the NHL named Rick Tocchet of the Phoenix Coyotes and Janet Jones, the wife of the great Wayne Gretzky. Both Janet and Rick were among those who are currently under investigation or indicated with the charges pertaining to the operation. Another person who is under investigation is suspended state trooper James Harney, who is allegedly Tocchet's partner in the operation. There is a possibility of an NHL team owner, half a dozen of active NHL players, and other coaches and staff members being involved in this operation slapshot. Two more names has been involved in the operation by law enforcement officials San Jose Sharks center Jeremy Roenick and Toronto Maple Leafs center Travis Green. The operation which has a base of operation in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. On August 3, 2006, former New Jersey state trooper James Harney did plead guilty to conspiracy, promoting gambling and misconduct, and to help with their case against Tocchet and the others. Harney was sentenced to six years in prison on Friday August 3, 2007.

Another person pleaded guilty named James Ulmer 41, of Swedesboro, New Jersey the same as James Harney did. Rick Tocchet pleaded guilty in 2007 and he was placed on probation for two years because for his role in Operation Slapshot and he did avoid jail time. Rick was allowed to return to active duty in February and provided he refrains from gambling in any way in the future. Rick also has to submit himself to the NHL-NHLPA doctors to see if he has an issue with compulsive gambling.

This operation has been an issue for a lot of players and it made people plead guilty. The operation been a major scandal and it is the biggest one in hockey. I believe that the operation slapshot is done for good. The operation made one person go to jail because he pleaded guilty and admitted that he had a problem with gambling. Operation Slapshot was a big problem for many of people that was involved in the operation at the time.

Daily Fantasy Sports

What I think of Daily Fantasy Sports is that it is just a way to get money. Also, I find it gambling because people enter into Daily Fantasy Sports to win money in their favorite sport if they win the whole thing. The government should regulate it more and maybe let a certain amount of people to enter Daily Fantasy Sports instead of hundreds or thousands of people join Daily Fantasy Sports every year. Daily Fantasy Sports is also a way that people enter it because the want to win tons of money. Laws should be made because people enter it as a way to make money. Daily Fantasy Sports also can be an issue and there should be a law about having less people join because a lot of people win Daily Fantasy Sports every year and it can be a problem depending on how many people join each sport and how many people win the whole thing every year.
When people enter to play Daily Fantasy Sports it becomes an addiction because some people enter every year and if they don't win money they enter until they win money. Most people just enter Daily Fantasy Sports because they want to win money. It can be a problem if people win the money because other people will know that someone won the money and they will go crazy to find out who won the money. In some states they forbid people to play Daily Fantasy Sports in five states. "Whether they win or lose, the feedback is that they love the experience," says Eccles "By definition,  the average player going to lose the money." In my opinion I think that Daily Fantasy Sports doesn't impact hockey because I don't think that is the most popular sport with Daily Fantasy Sports because tons of people like baseball or football better to enter Daily Fantasy Sports because they know more of the players in baseball and football if they are big football fans and baseball fans. I think that hockey is not that popular when people play Daily Fantasy Sports. People pick baseball or football more than hockey in my opinion. I don't think that Daily Sports effect my sport that I picked because people are more into baseball and football.

Street Hockey vs. Ice Hockey

Hockey is really hard for so many people because most people don't realize that street hockey and ice hockey are different. Street hockey you play in the street with roller blades and a ball. Ice hockey is you skate on ice which is really hard to do and you really need good balance to skate on actual ice. Hockey is a tough sport to play because you are skating on ice and the players have a stick and are skating with the stick and going fast up the ice. Street hockey is still fast when you play with roller blades on and you can also get hurt playing street hockey and also playing ice hockey. I don't play ice hockey or street hockey, but I play by myself in my backyard for fun. So, ice hockey and street hockey are different and hopefully people will understand that they are different.

In my opinion, I think that ice hockey is harder because you can get hurt more easier than street hockey. Everyone has their own opinion about which one is harder whether it is street hockey or real hockey. I hope that people see this blog because everyone has their own opinion on street hockey and real hockey.
